Spotlight on Sponsors - Karen & Peter Capuciati

Karen & Peter Capuciati

Karen Capuciati runs a 20-member artist co-op and gallery on Block Island, Rhode Island and creates beautiful ceramic pieces in her studio in Laguna Beach, California.

With a background in Nuclear Physics and Real Estate, Peter Capuciati leads a portfolio of start-up businesses in the fields of energy medicine and climate change solutions.

Potential is a word that comes up frequently in speaking to Karen Capuciati, who sponsors four students with her husband Peter. She likes sponsoring because her support has such a direct, real impact on students' lives. "A relatively small amount of money can make a huge difference," she says.

Karen was inspired to become a sponsor when she visited Tiruvannamalai while on a tour of India with Cross Cultural Journeys. The atmosphere of Ramana Maharshi's ashram and the presence of the Holy Mountain Arunachala had a big impact on her. Inspired to give back in appreciation for the spiritual gifts of India, she signed up to sponsor Sowmiya, who was then in the 2nd grade.

Sowmiya is now in her first year of college.

Last year, when they were looking at the latest letter from Sowmiya, Peter asked Karen, "Why don't we help some more?" Later that fall, when Karen heard that 3 students still needed sponsors, she immediately said, "We'll sponsor all three!" Sriharinirajan, Mahalakshmi and Yuvanshankarraja joined the clan.

Karen's advice to her sponsor students is to believe in themselves. Pursue what you love to do, and give it your all, and you can make a real difference in the world - this is something that both Karen and Peter are clearly doing with their own lives.
