Aruna Partnership News

Fall 2022

All activities of Aruna Partnership are inspired by the vision of Dr. Hugo Maier and his wife Anne Maier, founders of Shanthimalai Trust. We are unendingly grateful to the Maiers (affectionately called Appa and Amma), to the beloved people of India, and to you our donors for the privilege of participating in this work.

Newsletters and updates will be emailed to subscribers.

Program Highlights

Aruna Partnership has worked closely with our partners in India for over 30 years. Because we are all volunteers,100% of every dollar you give goes directly to the people and projects you support. As the pandemic eases, each of our programs reflects in new ways the ongoing impact of your generosity.

Connecting to Arunalachala's Ancient Spirituality

David Cosgrove’s spiritual search led him to Arunachala and Sri Ramanashram. His photographs are an eloquent expression of his deep love for this sacred place. Now, by supporting the work of Aruna Partnership, David has found yet another way to stay connected.

Environmental Stewardship: Honoring Arunachala

Shanthimalai Trust has expanded this project significantly, working in coordination with local authorities to implement sound practices promoting the sustainable use of natural resources. In June, Shanthimalai received Tamil Nadu’s Green Champion Award for its inspiring, long-standing service to the community in this area.

Spotlight on Sponsors

Emily Magal and Jim Greenwell of Peaks Island, Maine, both feel strongly that education presents a unique opportunity to make a difference in someone’s life. Even after losing her beloved grandmother, their sponsor child Vinaya passed her 12th standard exams and is now going on to college to become a teacher.

Focus on Design: Covid Collaboration

When the pandemic hit, we knew that 140 artisans in India depended on the income stream from our orders for their survival. Working on opposite sides of the world, Deborah Cake of Aruna Designs and K. Kalaimagal of Premalaya Handicrafts found heart-to-heart ways to stay connected even when they were most isolated.
